Veneers

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front and top surfaces of the teeth. They are an ideal choice for improving your smile and have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity. With veneers as an alternative, there is no reason to put up with gaps between your teeth, teeth that are stained, badly shaped or crooked.!

Will they look like normal teeth?

When bonded to the teeth, the ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea, or even cigarette stains. For strength and appearance, their resemblance to healthy, white tooth enamel is unsurpassed by other restorative options. Because they are thin, light can shine through them so they can take on the natural color of the underlying tooth.

How durable are porcelain veneers?

With proper care, porcelain veneers will brighten your smile for well over a decade.
Your veneers are crafted from the highest quality porcelain and are bonded with the most advanced and proven materials available.

Veneers can simply and quickly help you achieve a beautiful smile

Creating your Veneers will require three appointments:

Diagnosis and treatment planning:

You will want to take an active role in planning your smile design.  At this appointment, we will take impressions to create a sample model of what your teeth will look like after veneer placement.  We can also take photographs and digitally enhance your smile, with your approval, before any teeth are prepared.  See our smile gallery.  Also at this time we can discuss options of whitening the surrounding teeth to better optimize the end result.

Preparation:

"At this appointment your teeth will be prepared to accept placement of porcelain veneers and a final impression will be taken."

The second appointment will take two to four hours.  At this appointment your teeth will be prepared to accept placement of porcelain veneers and a final impression will be taken. When necessary, we will anesthetize the area to maximize your comfort.  At the same appointment, customized temporary veneers will be fabricated and cemented into place.  Your temporary veneers will be used as the template for the final size and shape of the final lab processed veneers.  Any changes with color, size and shape will be made at your discretion.  The final impression will be sent to our lab for fabrication of the porcelain veneers which should be ready in about three to four weeks.

Cementation:

At your third appointment, our Doctors will first try the veneers on your teeth to check the fit and color for your final approval. Our office is proud to have a porcelain specialist who can match the veneers to the color of your natural teeth with custom staining before permanent placement. Our lab with over 25 years of experience has perfected this technique.  You always have the final approval.  Once everything looks perfect, a strong cement will be applied and the veneers will be cemented.

Care and maintenance of your new Veneers:

Brush and floss as you normally would. Don’t be afraid that you will damage your veneers by brushing and flossing.  Non-abrasive toothpaste is recommended.  A good home care regimen will insure the best esthetic success of your veneers. You may experience some sensitivity to hot and cold after placement of your veneers. This is due to the amount of enamel left on the tooth after preparation. Sensitivity is totally normal and should dissipate after one to two weeks.

If you clench or grind your teeth, please let us know.  Our office may recommend a soft night guard for you to wear to minimize stress placed upon your teeth while you sleep.

We hope that your new veneers fulfill your esthetic goal. With proper home care and regularly scheduled visits, they are sure to provide you with a beautiful smile for years to come.
