What Are the Benefits of ZOOM® Professional Teeth Whitening Treatment?
Many people experience some level of staining or discoloration amongst their teeth, even if they take exceptional care of them with regular brushing and flossing habits. The truth is, the teeth can be affected by a number of factors – including the natural aging process, the use of tobacco products, and even regular consumption of certain beverages such as wine or coffee – that contribute to a yellowed or stained appearance. Professional teeth whitening treatments can be much more effective than over-the-counter whitening alternatives. These procedures utilize advanced technology to effectively make the teeth appear whiter and brighter. In many cases, teeth whitening treatment can lighten the teeth by up to eight shades or more. These procedures are designed to be safe and virtually painless, with results that can last for very long periods of time.

Who Is a Candidate for Teeth Whitening?
Teeth whitening can be a viable and effective option for many people looking to enhance their smile. In most cases, ideal teeth whitening candidates are:
- Individuals with mild to moderate tooth discoloration or yellowing
- Free of cavities or active gum disease
- Not experiencing additional underlying oral health conditions
- Non-smokers or willing to quit smoking
Those with severe tooth discoloration may benefit more from other cosmetic dental treatments, such as porcelain veneers, that can better target deeper stains. A consultation with one of our dentists can help determine if you are an ideal candidate for teeth whitening.
What Types of Teeth Whitening Are Available?
At Pomerado Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer both in-office treatments and at-home teeth whitening options.
Sinsational Smile® Teeth Whitening
In addition to ZOOM® teeth whitening, our practice offers the innovative Sinsational Smile® in-office whitening procedure. Sinsational Smile® is known for being a fast and effective way to lighten the teeth by two to five shades in as little as 20 minutes. This in-office whitening treatment can also be an ideal choice for patients with very sensitive teeth. Sinsational Smile® utilizes pre-filled silicone whitening trays and an LED accelerating light to brighten the teeth in a faster, more comfortable way. The trays themselves are designed to keep oxygen at a distance from the teeth during the treatment, allowing the whitening gel to work effectively without causing excessive sensitivity or discomfort. As part of the Sinsational Smile® procedure, you will also be given a take-home kit to help you keep the results going for even longer periods.
Sinsational Smile® is quickly becoming one of the more popular professional teeth whitening treatments. Plus, it is currently the only teeth whitening system that is Green Certified, a distinction from the Eco-Dentistry Association® that signifies the procedure’s environmentally-friendly standards!
At-Home Teeth Whitening
If you do not opt to have the full in-office teeth whitening procedure, Pomerado Cosmetic Dentistry also offers at-home teeth whitening kits for patients who would like to whiten their teeth on their own. At-home teeth whitening involves making you a custom fitted whitening tray designed to be worn for brief periods of time each day. Once you have reached the level of teeth whitening you desire, the treatment is complete. At-home teeth whitening kits are professional-grade whitening options and have been very successful for many patients.
What Does the Teeth Whitening Procedure Involve?
Teeth whitening with ZOOM® technology begins with a special whitening gel applied to the surface of your teeth. The gel will then be activated by a low-intensity light shone just above it, which ultimately allows oxygen into the enamel and dentin of your teeth. This action creates a bleaching effect, which can reduce visible signs of yellowing and staining and bring out whiter shades among the teeth. The entire teeth whitening procedure usually takes just one hour here at our practice, and the results are instantaneous.
Once your in-office ZOOM® teeth whitening treatment is complete, you will be given a series of ZOOM® whitening trays to use at home. The combination of the in-office procedure and the take-home whitening trays can work to make sure you attain a vibrant white smile.
How Much Does Teeth Whitening Cost?
The cost of teeth whitening can vary from patient to patient. Factors that may contribute to the overall cost include whether in-office or at-home treatment is performed, the number of sessions needed, and the severity of discoloration. Following a consultation with one of our dentists, a member of our team can provide you with a customized quote that takes your aesthetic needs and smile goals into consideration.
At Pomerado Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer dental financing options to help make payments more manageable. We have partnered with reputable third-party lender CareCredit® to provide flexible payment plans for qualified applicants.
Additional Frequently Asked Questions About Teeth Whitening
How often should I whiten my teeth?
The number of teeth whitening sessions you need will likely depend on the severity of your stains and desired tooth shade. Dr. Sacknoff and Dr. Wilson can provide you with more information following a consultation. Touch-ups may be recommended six months after in-office teeth whitening treatment. This estimate may be influenced by lifestyle habits as patients who tend to eat and drink darker-pigmented food and drinks (coffee, wine, berries, etc.) and use tobacco products may require more frequent sessions.
Will I experience tooth sensitivity during my whitening treatment?
Tooth sensitivity is a common side effect during whitening treatments. This is usually temporary and should subside shortly after treatment ends. To help reduce potential sensitivity in the days that follow, you can use toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth, avoid exceptionally hot or cold food and drinks, and use fluoride mouthwash.
Can I whiten my teeth if I have gum disease?
Teeth whitening is not recommended if you have active gum disease. Whitening agents may irritate inflamed or infected gums, potentially worsening the condition. It is important to treat gum disease first to ensure your mouth is healthy enough for cosmetic procedures.
Can porcelain veneers be whitened?
Porcelain veneers cannot be whitened with bleaching agents like natural teeth. Their color is set during fabrication, which makes them more resistant to staining and impervious to whitening treatments. However, to preserve their brightness and prevent discoloration around the edges or on surrounding teeth over time, it is important to practice good oral hygiene and limit consumption of stain-causing foods and drinks.
